UFC 184 results – Rousey vs Zingano

The much anticipated UFC women’s bantamweight title match between undefeated champion Ronda Rousey and undefeated challenger Cat Zingano went down tonight from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

It was the first time in UFC history that both the main event and co-main event were headlined by women’s bouts on pay-per-view.  The co-main feature was a bantamweight matchup with Raquel Pennington and decorated boxer turned mixed martial artist, Holly Holm, who made her UFC debut.

The main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Last night UFC President Dana White was at Invicta FC 11 to witness their featherweight champion Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino demolish Charmaine Tweet in under one minute.  It was expected that if Rousey defeated Zingano tonight, White would make a deal happen that brings the Invicta champ to the UFC to challenge the Rowdy one.

Rousey did it….  She defeated Cat in 14 seconds.  Fight over.

According to the California State Athletic Commission director, Andy Foster, UFC 184 is also the first time that all competitors will be both urine and blood tested.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar was in the audience.  Will he soon be back in the UFC ranks?

In the co-main event Holly Holm finally made her UFC debut…….with nerves in tow.  Was she scared?  Yes, but who wouldn’t be?  Millions of people watching.  It was not the most exciting fight but Holly Holm earned a decision win over Raquel Pennington.  It might not do much for her as far as rankings go but she is still undefeated.

In the opening bout on the main card Tony Ferguson defeated Gleison Tibau early in the first round with a choke, easily his most impressive win ever, as Tibau is the most winning lightweight in UFC history.

Alan Jouban made quick work of Richard Walsh, stopping him in the first round and Jake Ellenberger literally choked Josh Koscheck into the unemployment line as this fight was a must win for both fighters who have not had wins inside the octagon in several year.  Koscheck actually foamed at the mouth as Ellenberger submitted him with a north-south choke.
