UFC 203 Results:  Miocic vs Overeem, CM Punk Debut

UFC 203 takes plae at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland and features a main card on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

In the main event, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic defended his title against Alistair Overeem. Overeem was late for his weigh-in yesterday and was fined $500 by the Ohio Athletic Commission for the infraction.  Today, both fighters hurt each other on more than one occasion in the short-lived title bout in Cleveland.  In the end, Miocic retained the title in the first round via KO.

The co-main event of Fabricio Werdum and Travis Browne was a rematch that did not live up to the hype but was filled with interesting moments such as Browne dislocating his finger from a punch by Werdum, but being allowed to continue, as well as a near after fight brawl between camps.  Werdum would go on to win a decision but will likely not get a title shot with the win.

Former WWE star CM Punk made his mixed martial arts debut tonight against Mickey Gall.  A ton of new eyes tuned in tonight to see how the former professional wrestling champ would do with the transition to MMA.  He last 2:14 before being submitted via rear-naked choke.  After his win Gall called out Sage Northcutt.

Jimmie Rivera earned the biggest win of his career with a unanimous decision win over Urijah Faber.

Jessica Eye and Bethe Correia fought to a decision in Eye’s hometown of Cleveland.  The town was fully behind their fighter who may have been robbed of a decision and the fan let the Brazilian know how they felt with loud boos.

Earlier today it was noted that CB Dollaway was removed from tonight’s lineup after his injury was sustained in an elevator last night.  His opponent, Francimar Barroso was also pulled from the card with no replacement fight.

Also, Michael McBride who is making his UFC debut on short notice came in two pounds overweight and forfeited 20 percent of his show money to opponent, Nik Lentz.  He would lose to Lentz in the second round via TKO.
