In the main event, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey returned and sought to win back the title she once owned when she took on current champion, Amanda Nunes.

Rousey however, had no chance.  The fight was over in less than a minute.  Nunes TKO’d Rousey who never had a chance, in just 48 seconds.

Highlight below:

To Be The Man, You Have To Beat The Man

In the co-main event, Dominick Cruz defended his bantamweight title against challenger, Cody Garbrandt.  There is no love lost here between these two guys as the trash talk has gotten personal, and the two bantamweights have come close to clashing before the official fight even takes place.

The first round was a very strong five-minutes for the challenger in Garbrandt.  He repeatedly tagged the champion over and over again. In the second round the champion regained some momentum, possibly winning the round but it was early in the third round that an accidental headbutt opened up the champion, and it was bad.  The two men continued to talk trash and batter each other in a pretty much even contest headed into the fourth.

Early in the fourth Garbrandt clipped the champion with a big overhand right and knocked the champion down. Garbrandt made a mistake in not jumping on the opportunity, instead he pointed at Cruz as if he was out, and the champ somehow managed to get to his feet and get back up.  The challenger would knocked the champion down two or three more times in the round and mocked Cruz throughout.  Huge fourth round for Garbrandt.

In the fifth and final round the champion picked up the pace but it was likely too little too late.  The fight would go to the judges and surprisingly the two combatants who seemed to be bitter enemies hugged it out before the decision was read.  Garbrandt is the new UFC bantamweight champion of the world.

Fight scrapped

The card was also supposed to have a heavyweight rematch between former champions Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum, however the fight was pulled last week following comments Velasquez made pertaining to injuries during an interview with ESPN.  The NAC pulled the fight citing the well-being of the fighter.

Dillashaw wants his shot

Former bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw and rising contender John Lineker went to battle with the winner possibly (not guaranteed, but possibly) getting a crack at the winner in tonight’s co-main event.  What a big fight this was for the former champion.  The second round was an absolute domination by Dillashaw just grounding and pounding the heck out of the Brazilian and remarkably the contest wasn’t stopped and it went to a third round. Dillashaw continued the domination and ended up winning a unanimous decision, 30-26, on all three judges’ scorecards.

Ray Borg amissed weight for his flyweight matchup against Louis Smolka.  Borg came in at 129.5 pounds, however the fight still took place and he was extremely dominant both on the feet and on the ground.  Borg was dominant in all three rounds and earned a unanimous decision win over the Hawaiian.

Hendricks Hungry Again?

Former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks looked to be in rough shape two days ago at the media scrum and yesterday missed weight once again.  Hendricks tipped the scales at 173.5 pounds.  The former champ has said that if he loses this fight to Neil Magny he would retire from MMA.

Today, Hendricks was able to get Magny down to the canvas where he laid down some ground and pound before Magny trapped the former champion in a weird triangle/armbar combo that didn’t really put Hendricks in too much trouble but prevented him from scoring more points.  Once the second round began Hendricks once again go Magny down to the ground where he kept him for most of the round.

In the third round, Hendricks again was able to slam Magny down and use some wrestling but at the end of the round, Magny once again put Hendricks in a triangle choke submission.  The fight would land in the hands of the judges and ended up being a unanimous decision win in favor of Magny, much to the dismay of the crowd.

Because both of the first two fights on FOX Sports 1 ended early in the first round there was a more than 20-minute break on television before the next fight began.  Just before the break Alex Garcia delivered a crushing knockout blow to Mike Pyle.

BJJ Belt Promotion

Niko Price defeated Brandon Thatch via submission (arm-triangle) in the first round, in his very first UFC fight. Following the win, his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor promoted Price to brown belt inside the octagon.

Rules?  Anyone Know Them?

In the first fight Tim Means kneed Charles Oliveira who appeared to be a downed opponent.  The fight was temporarily halted as they believe the move was illegal.  Commentator Joe Rogan stated that under the new rules going into effect in just one day, in 2017 the rules will change and the knee will have become legal.  Then the Nevada Athletic Commissioner Marc Ratner said the move was not illegal but referee Dan Miragliotta disagreed and it was ruled an accidental knee to the head and the fight ended in a no contest.  After the fight Rogan then corrected himself stating the knee would have still been illegal.  Very confusing.
