UFC Fight Night 105 results:  Browne vs. Lewis

UFC Fight Night 105 takes place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

In the  main event, Travis Browne (18-5-1 MMA, 9-5-1 UFC) met Derrick Lewis (17-4 MMA, 8-2 UFC).  What a battle between these two heavyweights who had bad intentions.  Lewis was hurt early with body shots but managed to weather the storm and survive.  Lewis came from behind and put Browne to sleep with a knockout.

Also, former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks took on Hector Lombard in a middleweight co-main event matchup.  Hendricks looked like a different fighter than in recent contests.  For most every shot Lombard threw at him, Hendricks had an answer.  Hendricks would surprisingly earn a unanimous decision over Lombard.

Olympic Silver Medalist Sara McMann made short work of Gina Mazany who was looking to put on a show in her UFC debut.  McMann submitted Mazany early in the first round via arm triangle.

“The Irish Dragon” Paul Felder looked absolutely spectacular in a first round TKO win over Alessandro Ricci.

War Leads to Missed Call

Former women’s strawweight champ Carla Esparza and fellow TUF 20 alum, Randa Markos put on an absolute show.  The fight was a nonstop war.  Markos was the underdog, but was able to get the job done in a split decision over the former champ.  Late in the third round Esparza landed a knee to the head of Markos immediately following an accidental headbutt and blood flowed from the face of Markos.  Referee Keith Peterson missed the call which might have resulted in a point deduction and would have changed the decision from split to majority.

Early Stoppage?

Thiago “Marreta” Santos was really rocked at the end of the first round against Jack Marshman.  He survived and in the second round Santos landed a beautiful wheel kick that floored Marshman.  Santos swarmed in with strikes but Marshman was intelligently defending himself.  The referee assigned to the fight rushed in and stopped the contest but talks of an early stoppage were talked about by the commentary team and also flooded social media.

“New Found” Record

The first fighter to make his way to the octagon tonight was Ryan James.  He is the first fighter in UFC history from Newfoundland.  Unfortunately though for James he was submitted roughly 90 seconds into the contest via armbar from Gerald Meerschaert.
