UFC Fight Night 55: Bisping vs Rockhold Results – Rockhold Backs Up Talk, Squashes Beef

UFC Fight Night 55 took place at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia, Nov. 7 here in the U.S. and Nov. 8 in Australia.

The card was headlined by a rivalry that stems from a sparring session according to the two competitors.  Michael Bisping and Luke Rockhold have had a war of words leading up to the main event and the beef would finally be settled inside the octagon tonight.

In the opening round the fight was temporarily halted as Rockhold accidentally headbutted Bisping on the way in for a takedown and it cause a slight cut on an already previously cut (in training) eyebrow of Bisping.  The doctor said the fight could continue and when referee Herb Dean went to reset the position the fighters broke in, Bisping protested but the action would still resume.

In the second round Rockhold rocked Bisping with punches and was able to submit the Brit with a guillotine.  What was more impressive was that he put the beef aside and helped Bisping up and said he respected him.  Now for the pre-fight beef:

Bisping claimed that he brought Rockhold in to help him prepare for a fight and during a sparring session may have gotten the better of the former Strikeforce middleweight champion.  Later in an interview Bisping was asked about the training and Bisping jokingly said “Let’s put it this way, I’m new Strikeforce champion,” meaning that he had his way with Rockhold.

Rockhold took offense to the claim and the two have been battering ever since even though Bisping admits it was a joke.

UFC Fight Night 55 was the first time in the modern UFC era that all fights came to a finish.  11 fights, 11 finishes.

In the co-main event New York’s Al Iaquinta made it look easy against top contender Ross Pearson as he more than likely won the first round on the judges’ scorecards but solidified the win in the second with a TKO win at 1:29.  In the post fight interview Iaquinta said he was going to suplex a kangaroo.  Now that has YouTube sensation written all over it.
