UFC Fight Night 56 Results – St. Preux Silences Brazilian Crowd While Stunning Shogun

UFC Fight Night 56 Results

UFC Fight Night 56 took place in Uberlandia, Minas Gerais, Brazil and aired live on the U.S. on Fox Sports 1,  Nov. 8.  The main event did not come until nearly 4 a.m. local time in Brazil which leads one to believe that the UFC believed more U.S. fans would have watched the fights at night than if aired live earlier in the day.  Unfortunately for the Brazilian fans they had to stay up all night at the expense of the fans here in the States.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Maurcio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Ovince St. Preux  headlined the card.  St. Preux answered the call on relatively short notice after Jimi Manuwa was injured roughly two weeks ago.  He had almost nothing to lose and everything to gain; and gain he did.

Shogun slipped while throwing a punch and St. Preux took advantage, quickly silencing the Brazilian crowd and shocking the world as he defeated the former champion in the very first round.  The entire fight took only 34 seconds to complete.

The co-main event was cancelled yesterday after ‘Uncle Creepy’ Ian McCall became ill.  He was scheduled to fight Brazilian, John Lineker.  Warlley Alves vs. Alan Jouban moved up into the co-main spot and it was Jouban who would get robbed of a victory after he lost a unanimous decision that should have been in his favor.

Claudio Silva continued his win streak bringing the total to 11 with a split decision win over Leon Edwards.
