UFC Fight Night 62 results – Maia dominates LaFlare

UFC Fight Night 62 took place at the Maracanazinho Gymanasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Brazil, March 21 and was headlined by a welterweight bout between Ryan LaFlare and the Brazilian submission specialist, Demian Maia.

Maia somehow after a seven plus year career in the UFC was the underdog in his home country but ended up dominating four of five rounds and claiming the judges’ decision with a win over LaFlare.

In the co-main event Josh Koscheck steped up for an injured Ben Saunders to walk into enemy territory and battle Erick Silva.  Koscheck who had not had a win since 2012 and most recently lost via submission to Jake Ellenberger just last month would likely be cut from the UFC if he did not get the win.  Unfortunately for the TUF 1 alum, he did not come out the victor.  Would this be the last time Josh Koscheck fights inside the UFC octagon?

Amanda Nunes made quick work of the ‘Queen of Spades’ Shayna Baszler defeating her via TKO in under two minutes.

The first two fights on the main card ended via submission and all four fighters put on a spectacular show as both Gilbert Burns and Godofredo Pepey both defeated the favored fighters to overcome the odds.

On the preliminary card Drew Dober lost his bout unfortunately due to poor referee’ing and will have to appeal the decision in order to get a “No Contest” decision rather than the “L.”  Immediately following the call, UFC President Dana White tweeted “Now there is a guy who should NEVER ref again!!!!”
