We look to rebound this Saturday and again, don’t forget to play for free with the PickaFight App available for droids and iphones. UFC Fight Night is this Saturday May 10 at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH. The card is loaded and free on FOX. Let’s breakdown the matches.

UFC Fight Night – Brown vs. Silva Predictions

Anthony “The Recipe” Lapsley (25-6) vs. Albert “Einstein” Tumenov (12-2)

Both welterweights had unsuccessful debuts in the UFC, with Lapsley losing via decision to Jason High at UFC 167, and Tumenov losing a split decision to Ildemar Alcantra at UFC Fight Night – Machida vs. Mousasi. Lapsley, a former champion from King of the Cage promotion, has a strong ground game with his wrestling and ability to finish his opponents via submission (16 submission victories). The younger Tumenov at age 22 has good stand-up, with eight of his 12 victories coming by way of TKO/knockout. A good fight to start the night with both fighters already in urgent need to win this fight and avoid starting 0-2 in the UFC with imminent release by the company.

George: Tumenov via TKO Rd. 2

Eric: Tumenov via TKO Rd. 3

Ben “Manimal” Wall (7-1-1) vs. Justin “J-Bomb” Salas (11-5)

The second fight of the evening will be in the lightweight division with a similarity to the opening bout, both fighters coming off of UFC losses. Wall was on the Team Australia on TUF: The Smashes. The Australian native lost his debut (and undefeated record) by knockout in just 43 seconds of the first round at UFC Fight Night: Bigfoot vs. Hunt. Salas is 2-2 in the UFC, with his last bout a loss via submission against Thiago Tavares at UFC Fight Night – Belfort vs. Henderson. Wall has a good top game, and he will want to try and keep Salas on his back and grind him out. This might be a tough task for Wall as Salas is a former collegiate wrestler with decent striking.

George: Salas via Dec.

Eric: Salas via decision

Manny “The Anvil” Gamburyan (16-9, 1 NC) vs. Nick “The Carny” Lentz (26-6-2, 1 NC)

An interesting featherweight match up between judo specialist Gamburyan vs Lentz, a fighter with great take down defense. Gaburyan’s last bout against  Dennis Siver was overturned to a “No Contest” after Siver’s positive test results for banned substances. Gamburyan has the edge in the grappling and take downs in this match up and will look to take the fight to the ground and avoid Lentz’s striking. Lentz is no stranger on the ground, a former division I wrestler and a purple belt in BJJ.

George: Gamburyan via DEC.

Eric: Lentz via TKO Round 2

Eddie Wineland (21-9-1) vs. Johnny Eduardo (26-9)

Wineland is currently the #4 ranked bantamweight in the UFC. He had a nice TKO victory over Yves Jabouin at UFC on Fox 10 after losing a title fight against champion Renan Barao. Wineland has knockout power to go along with his wrestling skills. Eduardo is going to have to shake off his ring rust as he hasn’t fought in two years. That might be dangerous to face a top ranked fighter like Wineland after such a long break.

George: Wineland via TKO Rd 1

Eric: Wineland via submission Round 2

Yan Cabral (11-0) vs. Zak Cummings (16-3)

Both welterweights are former TUF cast members, Cabral on TUF Brazil 2, Cummings on TUF 17. Cabral, a black belt in BJJ has 10 of his 11 victories coming by way of submission. Cummings is also a well-rounded fighter with a brown belt in BJJ and not afraid to stand up and strike. Cummings will want to keep this fight standing and go for the knockout.

George: Cabral via DEC.

Eric: Cummings via decision

Kyoji Horiguchi (12-1) vs. Darrell “Mongoose” Montague (13-3)

Montague’s UFC debut was not so friendly as he had to face top contender John Dodson at UFC 166, losing via KO. The Mongoose now has to face striking specialist Kyoji Horiguchi, who has eight of his 12 wins coming by way of TKO/KO. Horiguchi won his UFC debut over Dustin Pague via TKO on the same card Montague lost to Dodson. Montague will have to rely on his speed and accuracy to defeat Horiguchi.

George: Horiguchi via TKO Rd 1

Eric: Horiguchi via submission Round 2

Ed “Shortfuse” Herman (21-9, 1 NC) vs. Rafael “Sapo” Natal (17-5-1)

Classic wrestler vs BJJ matchup. Herman has a nasty ground and pound when on top of opponents, he also knows his submissions with 13 of his 21 victories coming by way of submission. Natal is a BJJ blackbelt from Gracie Fusion. Both lost their last match and will look to bounce back and stay relative in a very competitive middleweight class. Expect a chess match on the ground.

George: Herman via DEC.

Eric: Herman via decision

Chris “Kamikaze” Cariaso (16-5) vs. Louis “Da Last Samurai” Smolka (7-0)

Flyweight battle of striker vs grappler. Cariaso is the #10 ranked flyweight in the UFC. He is a muay thai and golden gloves champion with a nasty leg kick. Smolka will be putting his perfect record on the line and will need to rely on his grappling to take this fight to his advantage. This fight can help push either fighter into some upper-level matches for a title push.

George: Cariaso via TKO Rd. 2

Eric:  Smolka via TKO Rd 2

Soa “The Hulk” Paleli (20-3) vs. Ruan “Fangzz” Potts (8-1)

A battle of the big boys in the heavyweight division. Potts will be making his debut to the UFC. The South African native is a star in the EFC, Africa’s number one mma organization, with all of his fights within the organization. Paleli is making his second UFC stint and it is going great this time. In his first stint back in 2007, Paleli lost via TKO and was immediately released. Paleli has won 10 straight, with his last two victories in the octagon. Paleli has never gone to the judges and this fight doesn’t look like it will last long.

George: Paleli via TKO Rd. 1

Eric:  Paleli via TKO Rd 3

Neil Magny (9-3) vs. Tim “The Dirty Bird” Means (20-5-1)

Means went 2-2 in his first stint in the UFC and was released. He has won his last two matches and is back for a second chance against Magny, who is also 2-2 in the UFC. This fight is crucial for both fighters as it looks like an elimination match. Both fighters are well rounded and have good cardio. Means has finished 15 of his 20 victories by tko.

George: Means via TKO Rd. 1

Eric:  Means via decision

Erik “New Breed” Koch (14-3) vs. Daron “Detroit Superstar” Cruickshank (14-4)

These lightweights both have vicious knockout power and can put their opponents to sleep. Both won their last fight via tko. Cruickshank will have a slight advantage on the mat with his wrestling skills if it goes there. This fight has potential FOTN written on it and will be a boost by either victor in the rankings.

George: Koch via TKO Rd. 2

Eric:  Cruickshank via TKO Rd 2

Costas Phillipou (12-4, 1 NC) vs. Lorenz “The Monsoon” Larkin (14-2)

Phillipou at one point looked like a potential threat in the middleweight division. Two straight losses later, Phillipou really needs this win, and it will not be an easy task against Larkin, who has power in his strikes. This will be a technical fight on the feet with Phillipou’s standup skills and Larkin’s flashiness and knock out capability. A win for Phillipou could right the ship to get back on track in climbing the UFC rankings (currently #12).

George: Phillipou via TKO Rd 1

Eric: Larkin via decision

Matt “The Immortal” Brown (20-11) vs. Erick “Indio” Silva (16-4, 1 NC)

#7 ranked Matt Brown will fight #14 ranked Erick Silva in the main event. Brown has won six straight in the UFC with five of the six wins coming by TKO/KO. The immortal is making a strong point to become a title contender in the welterweight division. Silva has been on a roller coaster ride in the UFC, seven fights and literally winning and losing every other match. If the pattern continues, bad news for Silva. Patterns can be broken however, and Silva’s last victory came 52 seconds in the first against Takenori Sato. Silva has ko power, but his advantage will be on the ground where he succeeds with his take downs and grappling (brown belt in judo, black belt in bjj). Some are saying this could be a FOTY candidate.

George: Brown via TKO Rd 2

Eric: Silva via TKO Rd 2
