UFC Fight Night Dublin results – Smolka smol-kes Holohan in enemy territory

UFC Fight Night 76 took place today at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland and was headlined by a flyweight showdown between Ireland’s Patrick Holohan and Louis Smolka of Hawaii.UFC Fight Night Dublin on 3ePaddy Holohan

The preliminary bouts steamed live on UFC Fight Pass beginning at 1:15 p.m. EST followed by the main card beginning at 4 p.m. EST.

The card suffered the loss of both the main and co-main events in one weeks’ time as first Ben Rothwell vs Stipe Miocic was cancelled after Miocic sustained an injury.  Then earlier this week Joe Duffy vs Dustin Poirier was called off after Duffy sustained a concussion during training.

There was plenty of action yesterday at the weigh-ins.  Several scuffles broke out which prompted UFC President Dana White to step in.

Smolka was able to capitalize in the second round of the main event against Holohan despite being moved up to the big stage earlier this week.  Going into enemy territory Smolka kept his cool and was able to smother his grounded opponent with strikes forcing him to turn to his stomach before Smolka grabbed hold of his neck and finished him over via a rear-naked choke.

In the co-main event Reza Madadi returned to the UFC after spening 14-months in prison after being convicted for his role in a burglary.  His opponent Norman Parke taunted Madadi yesterday at the weigh-ins by throwing a pink purse at him. Madadi  was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary of a luxury handbag store Bottega Veneta in Stockholm, Sweden.

The two threw their beef out the window after the fight was over and it was Parke would who edge out a unanimous decision.
