UFC Rankings Update: Lombard, Cerrone, Horiguchi, Climb Up

Following the first fight card of 2015, a few weight class rankings of the UFC received a makeover yesterday. Three fighters moved up in their resepective divisions. With Donald Cerrone winning his sixth straight match, he jumps up from number four to the number three spot, surpassing Gilbert Melendez in the lightweight division.

Last night it was announced that Cerrone is making a quick turnaround and will fight Benson Henderson on January 18 as a fill in for Eddie Alvarez.  Cerrrone’s ranking might move up again shortly with a win.

Hector Lombard moves into the top five in the welterweight class after winning his third straight fight over Josh Burkman. Lombard has an opportunity to earn a title shot with another big win. Speculations of Lombard versus MacDonald for a match against the winner of Lawler versus Hendricks’ third match have been mentioned.

The biggest climb up was from Kyoji Horiguchi in the flyweight division. Horiguchi jumped up three spots from the number 11 spot to number eight ranking. Horiguchi moved to 4-0 in the UFC, and won his ninth straight fight after defeating Louis Gaudinot. Horiguchi is making a strong case in point that he is one the more dangerous flyweights who could potentially flirt with a title shot if he wins two more matches.
