UFC Rankings Update: Magny on the rise, Jones climbing P4P?

Neil Magny’s stock continues to rise, becoming the Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone of the UFC’s welterweight division; stepping up to take fights on short notice, only to get the victory.

Magny replaced an injured Matt Brown and defeated Kelvin Gastelum at Fight Night Monterrey, this past weekend, by split decision. The win bumps Magny up four spots to number nine in the welterweight rankings. Gastelum, who turned in a spirited effort in the final two rounds, also sees an increase in his position as he moves up to number 13.

Magny has won nine of his last ten UFC bouts.  His only loss, a submission, to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist Demian Maia at UFC 190 in August.  Three weeks later he came back to defeat Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night 74.

Saturday’s results affected one other division as flyweights Henry Cejudo and Jussier Formiga swap spots. Cejudo, who beat Formiga by split decision, claims the number three spot and Formiga drops to fifth.  Cejudo will likely get the next title shot against champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson.

Outside of this weekend’s results, a few notable changes in the pound-for-pound rankings as Jon Jones leaps TJ Dillashaw for the fourth spot and Fabricio Werdum overtakes Robbie Lawler for number six.

Jones has not fought since January and was brought back into the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings just last week after being reinstated back into the organization.
