From UFC Press Release

UFC Strike NFT Launch After UFC 270

The UFC will finally launch their UFC Strike site this weekend. This is their Non-fungible token (NFT) collectible product they had been working on with Dapper Labs that was reported on earlier last year when the NFT collectible phenomenon was entering the sport of mixed martial arts. NBA fans are already familiar with the format with NBA Top Shot and with the UFC’s library of great moments, this is certainly something new fans will likely buy into.

The UFC made the announcement on UFC 270 fight week where the main event consists of two men that have their share of highlight worthy moments, worthy of becoming a collectible. The press release from the UFC said that the first “drop” should be available on Sunday, January 23.

Here’s how you can jump in on the action according the press release:

To access the initial open drop, fans simply visit ufcstrike.com where they will be able to join the queue for a chance to buy a pack (while supplies last) at $50.00 USD.  As UFC Strike continues to evolve in the coming months, the experience will include additional drops closely aligned with UFC event calendar. It will also include additional features like a peer-to-peer marketplace for fans to connect, buy, and sell their Moments.

The open drop of 200,000 total packs are coming to UFC Strike with a first round of 100,000 “Fully Loaded” packs, consisting of three NFT Moments capturing incredible finishes and amazing displays of striking and grappling from well known fighters on the UFC roster like; Francis Ngannou, Amanda Nunes, Kamaru Usman, Rose Namajunas, Derrick Lewis, Justin Gaethje and more.

If you are unfamiliar with how NFT’s work, check out ONE37 PM’s “A Beginner’s Guide to NFT’s.” One reason they have become so popular is that artists can make money off the content sold in that format and according to TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter, the athletes featured in the collectibles can earn up to 50% of the revenue share.

Some NFT’s have sold well over $500k dollars so if there is anything that could help with the issue of fighter pay, maybe it’s this.
