First ever UFC women’s flyweight fight to be held June 18

The first ever UFC women’s flyweight bout will be held on June 18 as Joanne Calderwood and Valerie Letourneau meet in the center of the octagon at 125-pounds.

Letourneau, a former 135-pound fighter in the UFC, most recently competed for the strawweight (115-pound) title against champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 193 in November.  Now, the Canadian fighter will meet right in the middle of the two divisions at 125-pounds.

Calderwood, a Scottish star, competed on season 20 of the Ultimate Fighter which was contested at 115-pounds.  She will pack on the extra 10-pounds to move up to flyweight for this contest at the TD Place Arena in Ottawa.

In the UFC Fight Night main event, top welterweight contenders collide when Rory MacDonald faces Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. FOX Sports 1 will televise the card.
