White:  If McGregor Retires, Aldo-Edgar For Vacant Title at UFC 200

The previously announced UFC featherweight interim title bout between former champion, Jose Aldo, and Frankie Edgar just got a whole lot more interesting.  Should current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor retire and vacate the title, the rematch bout between Aldo and Edgar will be turned into a title bout rather than for the interim title.

UFC President Dana White made the announcement today on The Herd with Colin Herd on FOX Sports Radio.

In the next year, will @TheNotoriousMMA fight in the @ufc? #TheHerd

Yesterday, McGregor shockingly announced his retirement from the sport of mixed martial arts which sent shockwaves through the sport.  Then, White went on ESPN to announce that he had pulled McGregor from the UFC 200 fight card for failure to appear at a press conference to promote the event.

Today, White states that he believes McGregor will not retire and he could possibly fight again this year. He later said that if Conor called him back, he would let him fight on the UFC 200 card.

The title stakes for Aldo and Edgar remain to hang in the balance as the world waits for an official decision from McGregor.

Will he, or won’t he vacate the UFC featherweight title?
