Vinny DeRiso Fights for MW Title in Co-Main Event At MPG 10

This Saturday night in the co-main event at MMA Platinum Gloves 10 “Summer Series”, Vinny DeRiso will step into the cage against Paul Turner for an opportunity to capture the middleweight amateur title.

This middleweight title bout is among nine other fights taking place Saturday evening, including the main event lightweight title bout between the champion, Nick Fiore, whom is ranked No. 2 in New York State, and Ryan Castro.

MPG 10 “Summer Series” is hosted once again at the Sports Arena in St. James, Long Island, New York. Fights kick-off at 7 p.m. EST.

DeRiso (3-1) is an amateur mixed martial artist that trains out of Bellmore Kickboxing. Previously DeRiso competed at light heavyweight (205), until this weekend when he drops down to 185-pounds for the first time. Before this past weekend, the twenty seven year-old was walking around at approximately 235-pounds.

“I dropped weight classes this time around from light heavyweight to middle weight so I had to get down to 203lbs leading up to this weekend from 235lb,” said DeRiso.

He informed My MMA News that his weight cut has been unlike others in the past, but has been going well thus far. A little under a week until the amateur fighter has to lose roughly 15-pounds before stepping on the scale at weigh-ins the night ahead of competition.

“I have tons of energy and show no signs of fatigue.”

The native of East Northport is confident in his upcoming title fight against his opponent Paul Turner. “I expect a good fight. I’m very confident in my skill level and can’t wait to show it off.” DeRiso mentioned. The Bellmore Kickboxing fighter will have the chance to display his skill set in front of a hundred people Saturday night who’ve purchased tickets to support the DeRiso family.

“Five years ago I lost my mom and grandpa in a tragic car accident July 30th 2010. So this fight is for them.” DeRiso said. Dedicating this fight to his mother and grandfather clearly has been strong motivation leading to a great training camp. “This has been the best training camp by far. I’m stronger and faster than I’ve ever been. My cardio is through the roof.”

“The fact that everyone is coming to support not just me, but my family is truly heartwarming to me,” said DeRiso, as the amateur mixed martial artist fighter expressed gratitude to the community.

The focused fighter has transformed his passion for the gym into a career. Not only does he train to improve as a mixed martial artist, but he is also the owner of Revolution Fitness.

DeRiso described his short-term goal as taking the leap to becoming a professional MMA athlete. A victory this Saturday night for the middleweight title against Paul Turner will be a step in the right direction of turning pro. The business owner informed My MMA News that his long-term goal is to eventually develop his gym (Revolution Fitness) into a franchise. “Right now I’m focused on my career, not just as a fighter, but a business owner.”

”My hobby is my gym. My fun is being able to get up every day and do what I love, with the best clients in the world. I don’t need anything more than that.” When outside of the cage and not at the gym, DeRiso finds himself traveling and spending time with his dog Bailey.

If you have not seen DeRiso fight, be sure to purchase a ticket to his title fight. It will be worth every cent spent on admission.

“This is only the begging, the best is yet to come.” – Vinny DeRiso
