Weird turn of events:  Fighter to fight cornerman tonight at WSOF 21

After a weight cutting issue forced Marcus Hicks off of tonight’s World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 21 card, his opponent Matt Baker will fight his own training partner and cornerman.

Yes, you read that right.  In order to save the card, Thiago Goncalves (17-4) who has not fought in over a year, stepped up to fight the very man he was there to corner in Baker.

Baker (12-7) is coming off a second round TKO back in March at BFL 35.  This will be Baker’s sixth WSOF fight and a first for Goncalves.

After Hicks was examined by the medical staff on-hand before he was to step on the scale, he was deemed “medically/physically ineligible to compete.”

WSOF 21 takes place at the Edmonton Expo Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and the main card airs on the NBC Sports Network beginning at 9PM.  It is headlined by a title fight between Lance Palmer and Chris Horodecki.
