With Win, Dos Anjos Earns Title Shot Against Anthony Pettis

Rafael Dos Anjos put on a one-sided beat down on an overweight, sluggish, and sloppy Nate Diaz on UFC Fight Night 13. Diaz came in nearly six pounds overweight, and he looked out of all sorts in his fight against Dos Anjos. The fight was so one-sided, two of the three judges awarded Dos Anjos with a 30-26 score (meaning Dos Anjos won a round 10-8). Following his dominant victory, Dos Anjos pleaded for a title shot.

UFC President Dana White obliged.

At the post fight conference, White stated that number one contender Khabib Nurmagomedov (22-0) would not be ready to go anytime soon, as he is still rehabilitating his knee. Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis was so impressed with Dos Anjos’ dominant performance, he agreed and said that he was ready to fight Dos Anjos.

Rafael Dos Anjos has been on a tear in the UFC, winning eight of his last nine fights in the UFC, with his only loss coming to a decision to Nurmagomedov. Dos Anjos also secured a third consecutive victory on Saturday night. In his post fight conference, Dos Anjos stated that he wants to become the first Brazilian to capture the UFC lightweight title.

No announcement has been yet made as to when this fight will occur, but one thing is for sure, both Pettis and Dos Anjos are very exciting fighters and the best of the weight class, this could be a very competitive fight and live up to its expectations.
