WSOF signs Thiago Silva, will hold 4-man LHW tourney to crown champ

Hopefully for Thiago Silva, all his legal troubles are behind him as the former UFC fighter will now fight for the World Series of Fighting (WSOF).

WSOF will  hold a four-man light heavyweight tournament that will crown the organization’s new champion.

Silva will fight Ronny Markes on March 28, while Matt Hamill will be on the opposite side of the bracket fighting an unnamed opponent.

The event which will be aired on the NBC Sports Network will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between champion Justin Gaethje and Luis Palomino.

Silva was arrested early last year and faced charges of assault and battery.  He was released by the UFC.  When the charges were dropped the Brazilian was reinstated, but then released again not long after his wife released a video of him apparently under the influence of drugs and holding a firearm.

Silva’s last fight was against Hamill in October 2013 where he won a unanimous decision.

Ironically that was also Hamill’s last fight and now the two have a shot at becoming a world champion for a new organization.

Markes (15-3) is on a one-fight win streak after defeating Cully Butterfield last August at WSOF 12.
