Zu Anyanwu gets long awaited call to UFC, fights Saturday in Pittsburgh

Things were looking pretty bleak after hard-hitting heavyweight Azunna Anyanwu, more popularly known as Zu Anyanwu, did not earn a UFC contract after his knockout win over Greg Rebello in July.  It was expected that with the win, the Cage Fury Fighting Championships heavyweight champion would be signed to the UFC.  Instead, UFC President Dana White did not select him on that night.

Left scratching his head and wondering what he had to do to earn a UFC contract, Anywanwu went back to the drawing board.  He flew back home to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and continued to put work in at the gym.

Today, MPR Endurance coach Erik Purcell announced that Zu has signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC and will fight this Saturday in Pittsburgh.  Dmitriy Sosnovskiy pulled out of the contest against Justin Ledet, and Zu stepped in.

Eric Purcell’s post:

“Happy to announce as of today MPR Endurance MMA #athlete #fighter Zu Anyanwu just signed a multi fight deal with the @ufc #UFC He fights this Saturday night in #Pittsburgh #3TC to the UFC!!! #MPR #langhorne”

Anyanwu brings a professional mixed martial arts record of 14-4 in the octagon when he fights on Saturday night.
