Adriano Moraes vs. Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson set for ONE Flyweight title
According to ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong, a flyweight title fight between reigning titleholder Adriano Moraes and former longtime UFC champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson has been set to take place on February 24, 2021, in Singapore.
Moraes and Johnson have been on a collision course ever since the 34-year-old “Mighty Mouse” won the ONE Championship Flyweight Grand-Prix in October 2019, but due to the current state of the world, a date for the bout had not yet been announced until this morning.
A native of Brazil, Moraes holds an 18-3 overall record that features 12 wins by way of finish including nine by submission. The 31-year-old is actually a three-time ONE flyweight champion and most recently, has won five of his last six bouts. During that stretch, he’s picked up victories over the likes of Eugene Toquero, Tilek Batyrov, Kairat Akhmetov, Danny Kingad, and Geje Eustaquio.
Johnson, meanwhile, is widely considered to be amongst the greatest mixed martial arts fighters of all-time and many would likely consider him the best 125 pounder to have ever competed. During his time in the UFC, for example, he won 13-straight fights while defending his flyweight title a record 11 consecutive times. During his title reign, he beat notable names like Joseph Benavidez, John Dodson, Kyoji Horiguchi, and Henry Cejudo.
In 2019, however, “Mighty Mouse” Demetrious Johnson made the jump to ONE after he was essentially traded by the UFC in exchange for former ONE and Bellator champion Ben Askren. Since making the move, Johnson has won three-straight fights, submitting Yuya Wakamatsu and scoring decision victories over Tatsumitsu Wada and Kingad.
As of now, no other fights have been confirmed for the card on Feb. 24.
