Interview with Ahmad Ibrahim above
Philadelphia’s own, and Muay Thai royalty, Ahmad “The Palestinian Golden Boy” Ibrahim gets back into the ring for the chance to fulfill a childhood dream.
This Saturday, September 25th, Ibrahim takes to the west coast as he battles in the main event of WKC: World Championship Muay Thai in Burbank, CA. for the coveted WBC National Title. The prestigious “Green and Gold” piece of hardware that combat athletes spend a lifetime vying for, will be a culmination of blood, sweat, tears as well as his youth.
The WBC (World Boxing Council) was established in 1963 and is arguably the most sought-after combat sports championship in the world. Such boxing legends as Muhammad Ali, Floyd Mayweather, Sugar Ray Leonard, and countless others have proudly carried the WBC world title in their formidable careers. The WBC Muay Thai portion of the council was formed in 2005-When Ibrahim was just a boy.
Achieving great heights in the sport of Muay Thai from an early age, Ibrahim garnered his first Muay Thai championship over 10 years ago. Now, at the height of his fighting prime, “The Palestinian Golden Boy”, Ibrahim looks to upset and dethrone the current champ, Adam Røthweiler.
“I actually have pictures and notes from when I was 13 saying ‘I can’t wait to become a WBC champion. That was like my ‘I want to be a police officer one day,’ thing when I was growing up. So, this has been a long, long time coming,” Ibrahim says. I always made jokes with my uncle (Rami Ibrahim) and said, ‘ if I win a WBC belt and I never fought again, you will not hear one complaint from my mouth,” Ibrahim laughs.
