AJ Fletcher reacts to earning a UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series
AJ Fletcher had a big opportunity in front of him when he made the walk the through the doors and into the octagon at UFC Apex.
Fletcher kicked off the fifth season of Dana White’s Contender Series in a welterweight bout against Leonardo Damiani and used his spot in the opening fight of the season to turn the opportunity into a momentum of a lifetime.
In the first round the fight, Fletcher landed a highlight reel flying that knocked out Damiani out cold. The knockout got a huge reaction from UFC president Dana White, who believed the knockout should have been the number one play on SportCenter.
After the incredible performance White granted the 24-year-old Lafayette, Louisiana native a UFC contract.
Following the biggest win of his career, Fletcher talked to MyMMANews about his win and earning a UFC contract. Aside from fight, Fletcher also talked about staying active as the win marked his ninth in the last two years. He also discussed what it’s been like to train and workout with former UFC interim lightweight champion and current No. 1 lightweight Dustin Poirier.
