Al Iaquinta ready to ‘fight’ Bobby Green at UFC 268: ‘I’m going in there to fight and win’
Al Iaquinta is excited to make his return at UFC 268 in Madison Square Garden.
Iaquinta has not fought since he suffered a decision loss to Dan Hooker at UFC 243 in October of 2019. It was his second loss in a row and made him just 1-3 in his last four. However, one of those losses was to Khabib Nurmagomedov for the belt in a fight he took on a weeks’ notice.
Since his last fight, he has been rehabbing an injury and after watching Green’s last fight he was interested in making the fight happen. The two were linked to one another in the past but never came to fruition so he’s excited to finally share the Octagon with him.
“We were supposed to fight in 2015 and that fight never ended up happening. So in my head, I was like, ‘Oh, Bobby Green.’ He didn’t win (hist last) fight but I honestly thought he won the fight,” Iaquinta said at UFC 268 media day. “It was a great fight and he came on strong at the end. Then, the next day, my manager texted me, ‘the UFC just offered you Bobby Green at MSG.’ I’m like, ‘Perfect, I’m in.’ It all just came together at the right time. That’s how it came together and it worked out really good.”
Heading into the fight, Al Iaquinta is confident in his skill set that he’ll make good of his UFC return to secure the win. He knows Green has a unique style but he’s prepared to go to war to get his hand raised.
“I think that’s Bobby Green’s thing. He keeps it close,” Iaquinta said. “He’s got a really unique style. He’s been fighting often. I’m going in there to fight. I’m not going in there to do anything else or have a good show or whatever. I’m going in there to fight and win. I think that’s going to be the difference.”
