Alexander Volkanovski says Max Holloway quadrilogy “doesn’t make sense”
UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski says a potential Max Holloway quadrilogy fight “doesn’t make sense.”
Holloway just had a great showing against Arnold Allen, beating the young Brit by unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Kansas City last weekend. It was a bounce-back performance by Holloway, who had lost to Volkanovski for the third time in his previous bout. While Holloway is considered by most fans and media to be the second-best fighter in the UFC featherweight division behind the champ, the fact that he has already suffered three previous losses to the champion puts him in a tough spot in the division.
In fact, as far as Volkanovski goes, a fourth fight between him and the Hawaiian doesn’t make sense. Speaking to “The Mac Life” in a recent interview, Volkanovski explained why he doesn’t see a fourth fight happening between himself and Holloway.
“Max is a cool dude, as well, great fighter. But it’s just whether you’re gonna go there. Like do I see – how can it happen, right? It’s hard enough to do a trilogy when you’re two (up). A lot of people were like, ‘What are you doing? Why?’ At least there was still a bit of history and things like that where now the third one, obviously it doesn’t make sense. So it’s a tricky situation for Max, that’s for sure,” Volkanovski said (via MMAjunkie.com).
Volkanovski steps back into the Octagon this summer at UFC 290 when he defends his title against interim champion Yair Rodriguez, who has a loss to Holloway from two years ago. Holloway is likely rooting for Rodriguez to win that fight as that would likely be his clearest path to fighting for the belt again. But Should Rodriguez defeat Volkanovski and win the undisputed title, it seems likely the UFC would give Volkanovski an immediate rematch, which could keep Holloway waiting even longer, showing how tough of a spot he’s in.
Are you interested at all in a fourth fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway, or do you agree that it doesn’t make sense?
