Alexander Volkov impressively stops Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC Vegas 56

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us today, June 4, 2022, for UFC Vegas 56, going down live from the Apex Center in Enterprise, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a heavyweight bout between former Bellator & M-1 Global champion Alexander Volkov (no. 7) and multi-time world kickboxing champion Jairzinho Rozenstruik (no. 8).

Both of these men are incredibly dangerous with their striking, and each have defeated world class opponents on multiple occasions, though each have hit a bit of a rough patch lately.

Volkov has gone 4-4 over his last eight after winning his first four-straight UFC bouts, while Rozenstruik has gone 2-3 over his last five after opening up his career with a record of 10-0.

Official Result: Alexander Volkov def. Jairzinho Rozenstruik via TKO (punches) at 2:12 of round one

Volkov opens up the bout with back-to-back round kicks, one to the leg and one to the body, and he follows it up with a lot of volume over the next couple minutes.

Rozenstruik is clearly the slower party of the two, as Volkov is moving well and landing beautiful strikes. None of them are too devastating, but he’s finding his range beautifully against a world class kickboxer.

Rozenstruik then lands a hard boxing combo, backing Volkov up, before Volkov is able to land a hard right hand that badly hurts Rozenstruik. A few follow up punches is all it took and the fight was stopped via TKO.

Alexander Volkov reminded us he’s still here tonight, what a performance. He made it look so easy, no one has been able to do that to Rozenstruik other than heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.

He improves his record to 35-10, as he secures his 26th professional finish, and the 23rd knockout victory of his career. Who would you like to see him in there with next?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
