Alistair Overeem defeats Badr Hari in rubber match at GLORY Collision 4
Former UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem picked up his first victory since leaving the promotion to return to kickboxing.
“The Demolition Man” Overeem defeated an old foe in Badr Hari by way of unanimous decision at GLORY Collision 4 on Saturday from the GelreDome in Amhem, Netherlands.
The two men have history with Overeem getting the first win via first-round KO at Dynamite!!! 2008, and Hari won their second meeting via first-round KO in the K-1 World Grand Prix 2009 final.
Following his loss tonight, Hadr suggested that he will be retiring from competition after years.
Overeem then looked to book his next fight, calling out reigning titleholder Rico Verhoeven to enter the ring for a staredown.
“Rico is not here,” Overeem said. “Not defending his belt, so I am the Glory champion.”
Verhoeven, who was slated to face Overeem last year at GLORY 79 but the fight was cancelled due to an injury to Overeem, then entered the ring.
“I wasn’t here,” Verhoeven later responded. “I’m right here. If you’re going to [fight like this with me], you aren’t even going to last two rounds.”
“He knows in a street fight I would annihilate this man,” Overeem retaliated.
Of course, they are professional fighters and the matchup will not be a “street fight” should it be booked.
