Alistair Overeem gets TKO win over heavyhearted Walt Harris
Alistair Overeem picks up another knockout win
The UFC continues its COVID-19 comeback with UFC on ESPN 8 tonight, Saturday, May 16.
Heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris headline the event at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.
Of course the big story line coming into the fight is Harris’ return to the octagon following the loss of his stepdaughter who was tragically murdered.
Overeem, who is coming off a heartbreaking loss to Jairzinho Rozenstruik, said before the fight that the best way to honor Harris for his bravery to fight during this time is to bring the fight to him.
With that being said, both men have heavy hands so this main event is expected to have some fireworks. Here’s a round-bye-round breakdown of the fight.
Round 1
While the first minute was pretty much a wash, Harris lands the first clean shot of the fight with just under four minutes to go and it was a big one as he sends Overeem to the canvass and has Overeem in trouble. Overeem covered up while eating some big shots and got himself out of the jam. Once Overeem got to his feet, you can notice that his face is covered in blood. Overeem, who managed to stay patience, was able to flip the round in his favor as he then lands a big front kick that sends Harris down. Overeem now gets on top of Harris in a very good position and he finishes the round very strong.

Round 2
Harris appears to be tired and is trying to pick is shots wisely. Overeem comes forward with well over three minutes to go and whacks Harris with a clean punch that knocks Harris down. Harris is now in a bad spot as Overeem is just landing shot after shot. After Harris was given a few instructions to get out of the position by the referee, Harris cannot move and Overeem is just landing blow after blow. The fight was stopped giving Overeem win number 46 in his career.
Official result: Alistair Overeem wins by TKO, second round (3:00)
