Alistair Overeem wants to fight on September’s UFC Card in Japan
Alistair Overeem is recovering from elbow surgery he underwent last month, and the “Demolition Man” is aiming a return in September. Overeem (37-13, 1 NC) last fought in February defeating Frank Mir by unanimous decision, currently ranking him #6 in the heavyweight division.
Overeem has contacted UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta requesting to fight in Japan, where the September card is scheduled to take place. Overeem is no stranger to the “Land of the Rising Sun” where he had breakout success with Pride FC and K-1 organizations. Overeem’s last fight in Japan was a 19-second knockout win over Todd Duffee in the K-1 Dynamite card.
“Alistair is looking to return in September,” Fertitta told ESPN. “We haven’t finalized it yet, but he’s expressed an interest in fighting in Japan. I don’t know if we’ll have a spot on the card for that, but I would expect him to come back in that time frame.”
