Nunes and Pena will be meeting for the third year in a row, and this time around, this final bout between the two will settle their differences for all after splitting their first two bouts.
Pena shocked the world at UFC 269 in December 2021 when she submitted Nunes to win the UFC women’s bantamweight title. Last summer at UFC 277, Nunes won her belt back when she won a dominant decision over Pena in a beatdown. But Pena kept asking for a trilogy fight in order to get one more shot at getting the belt back, and she will get exactly what she wants when she takes on Nunes in the main event of the UFC Calgary PPV card.
Other fights on the card already include a welterweight bout between Stephen Thompson and Michel Pereira; a middleweight bout between Eryk Anders and Marc-Andre Barriault; and a featherweight bout between Dan Ige and Nate Landwehr. Overall, the card has 10 fights set for it so far, so there is still room to add a few more. Look for those final slots to be filled with Canadian talent, although the card could use another big-name fight, too.
Many of the UFC’s champions are already booked for fights, so another title fight being added to this event seems unlikely. That being said, there are still plenty of contenders out there who still need fights booked, so perhaps another big fight will be added to this card.
Who do you think wins the trilogy fight between Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena?
