Nunes-Cyborg fight looks to put womens' MMA on top

Amanda Nunes believes Cris Cyborg fight is bigger than Rousey fight

Amanda Nunes has a chance to become the first-ever women’s champ-champ in the UFC. On December 29, at UFC 232 in the co-main event, Nunes has the task of moving up to featherweight and taking on Cris Cyborg. With that, she believes this fight is bigger than her fight against Ronda Rousey, in which she won the fight by first round knockout. When she was taking on Rousey, Rousey was the biggest star in the UFC, and it was a well-hyped fight. Ultimately, the fight against Cyborg may very well be bigger.

“For sure,” Amanda Nunes told TMZ when asked if this was the biggest fight of her career. “For sure it’s the biggest fight. It’s champion vs. champion. It’ll be exciting.”

“For sure,” she added when asked if it’s bigger than her fight with Ronda Rousey. “This is going to be the two most dominant fighters. It’s going to be a good one.”

Nunes last fought at UFC 224 where she defended her belt against Raquel Pennington by TKO in the fifth round. She is currently riding a seven-fight winning streak with wins over the likes of Rousey, Valentina Shevchenko (twice), and Miesha Tate among others. Nunes has been dominant at bantamweight since becoming the champion but will have her toughest fight to date when she takes on Cyborg.

Meanwhile, this will also be Cyborg’s toughest fight to date. Cyborg has been a dominant champion at featherweight and hasn’t lost an MMA fight since 2005. She is now 20-1 with one no-contest. Cyborg won the featherweight title in 2017 with a TKO win over Tonya Evinger and then defeated Holly Holm and Yana Kunitskaya for title defenses.

Ultimately, there is no question this is the biggest women’s MMA fight in UFC history. With that, whoever wins the fight may very well be the G.O.A.T of women’s MMA. It has been a fight months in the making, and now it is finally happening in six days time.
