Anderson Silva vs Nick Diaz – January 31, 2015
Little more than a year after sustaining the gruesome leg break while attempting to reclaim his middleweight title against Chris Weidman, Anderson ‘the Spider’ Silva will return to middleweight action as he goes toe-to-toe with the bad boy of MMA, Nick Diaz.
Diaz will be returning after almost two years of inactivity from the sport. Diaz stated after his last loss that he only wanted big fights, meaning title shots or ones paying half a million dollars per bout. Right now in the sport there are not many bigger names than Anderson SIlva.
The fight against Silva might not be for a title but it is sure to bring in the pay-per-view points which in turn will put money in Diaz’ pockets.
UFC President Dana White announced the bout during SportsCenter today roughly a week after Diaz signed a new contract with the organization.
The Anderson Silva vs Nick Diaz matchup will take place at UFC 183 in Las Vegas as part of the promotion’s traditional Super Bowl weekend card. No further matchups have been announced as we are still six months from the fight. Silva is arguably the greatest middleweight in the history of mixed martial arts and ranks with one of the top pound-for-pound fighters of all time.
