Angela Hill vs Michelle Waterson moved to main event on Sept. 12
After several changes have been made to the UFC Vegas 10 fight card, a new main event has been put in place according to reports. After losing the originally scheduled main event between light heavyweights Glover Teixeira and Thiago Santos, a women’s strawweight fight between Angela Hill and Michelle Waterson will now be the featured main event on September 12.
ESPN’s Ariel Helwani was first to report the new main event fight, as what has been many changes to the UFC Vegas 10 card. After Teixeira tested positive for COVID-19, the fight was cancelled for September 12 but moved to October 3, provided Teixeira passes testing leading up to the fight in October.
While originally set to be the co-main event, the bump up to main event for Hill and Waterson will also include the fight going from an originally scheduled three rounds to a five-round fight. The co-main event, as of now, will be a women’s flyweight contest between Andrea Lee and Roxanne Modafferi.
Before she dropped a split-decision loss to Claudia Gadelha in her last fight, Angela Hill was on a three-fight winning streak, the longest of her UFC tenure, and has now found herself inside the top-15 rankings of the strawweight division. Meanwhile, Michelle Waterson will enter the Octagon against Hill on a two-fight skid with losses to former champions Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Carla Esparza.
This will be the fourth appearance for Hill in 2020 and the second for Waterson, both women have not competed since May of this year, when the UFC first returned to live events during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also included in the change to the September 12 card is Sijara Eubanks now taking on Julia Avila after losing her originally scheduled fight against Karol Rosa which was set for this weekend.
The originally scheduled main event between Glover Teixeira and Thiago Santos will now reportedly be the co-main event fight on October 3, while the main event will be a women’s bantamweight contest between former champion Holly Holm and rising contender Irene Aldana.
