Anthony Dill makes his return at Art of War Cage Fighting 21
Video interview with Anthony Dill above
Anthony Dill last made the walk to the cage for a fight back in July of 2015. I was cageside, on commentary for this one, as Dill fought Kenny Richmond at Global Proving Ground and it was a very close, entertaining, back and forth fight. Dill went to 0-3, but I saw talent, and had no idea that we would have to wait over six years to see him get another chance to grab his first professional victory.
Dill is back, and scheduled to stand across the cage from Oscar Garcia at Art of War Cage Fighting 21 on December 4th, at Rivers Casino in South Philadelphia. Garcia is only 21-years-old, but has already had nine amateur contests where he went 6-3 and he and his team believe that he is ready to make that leap to the pro ranks. Dill is still relatively young at 26, and has trained with some of the best mixed martial artists in his hometown of Philadelphia.
MyMMANews caught up with Dill as we head in to fight week and he tells us…
“I needed to take that time off for myself to get things right in life and my head, but I never stopped training and always planned on returning, and then I had that motorcycle accident which pushed me back even further. I am in the gym full time and I have to thank Bill Algeo for giving me the opportunity. The more I am teaching, the more I like it.”
Dill is now a coach and instructor at Algeo MMA and Kickboxing in King of Prussia, PA. Algeo is currently fighting in the UFC after dominating on the regional scene for the past seven or eight years. Philly MMA has been breaking new ground on a continual basis as the number of fighters from the city of brotherly love continues to grow. Dill has rolled with just about all of them and is ready to prove that he belongs. His brother Will Dill, is also a beast of a competitor and active on the regional scene at featherweight.
The tickets for this event are completely sold out but a live stream will be available on PPV on StarFund App with the opening bell scheduled for 7 pm. Reigning AOW Heavyweight Amateur champion Patrick Brady will make his professional debut and Cody “the Punisher” Russell will hold down the main event in his second pro fight.
MyMMANews will be all over the AOW 21 card with more pre-fight media, live results, and post-fight interviews. We cover regional MMA like no other.
