Anthony Smith doesn’t care if Jon Jones is clean for their fight
Anthony Smith will be getting his title shot.
After moving up to light heavyweight in early 2018, Smith simply dominated. He knocked out Rashad Evans, then knocked out Shogun Rua in his very next fight. Although many said Smith was just fighting old fighters, he then submitted Volkan Oezdemir to set himself up as the clear cut number one contender.
Now, Smith will be taking on Jon Jones at UFC 235 in the main event. However, a question surrounding Jones is the picograms, and if he is a clean fighter. Smith, however, doesn’t care about any of that.
“Honestly, I don’t care,” Smith said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show. “At this point, I got what I have been working for my entire career and it’s going to take more than Jon Jones’ pee to change my mind. I’m in there, I’m going. It wouldn’t matter what you told me. Right now there is nothing that would stop me from fighting Jon Jones. If you told me he was fighting with a shiv in his jock strap, I’m still going in.”
A major reason why Smith doesn’t care is the fact he doesn’t really know who is a clean fighter anymore. That is the fact of USADA and the past few months according to Smith.
“I think that the definition of a clean fighter has become mighty grey in the last six months,” Smith said. “And it didn’t use to be like that, it was pretty black and white.
“If you had a banned substance in your body you were dirty and you were cheating. But for whatever reason, that’s not the narrative everyone is going by anymore.”
No matter what, Smith will be fighting Jones in the main event of UFC 235. He is ready for his title shot and is confident that he can win the fight and here ‘And New’ by Bruce Buffer.
