Anthony Smith gets a win by doctor stoppage over Jimmy Crute
Anthony Smith lands a perfectly placed leg kick that results in a doctor stoppage to give Smith the victory over Jimmy Crute.
Fans are back at UFC 261 as a sold-out crowd of 15,000 fill the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, April 24.
Headlining a main card featuring three championship bouts is a welterweight title rematch between the current king Kamaru Usman and challenger Jorge Masvidal.
In the co-main event, strawweight champion Zhang Weili makes her second title defense, against former champion Rose Namajunas. Current women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko puts her strap on the line against former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade.
Before the trio of championship fights, a bout between two ranked light heavyweight contenders will kick off the main card as former title challenger Anthony Smith takes on Jimmy Crute.
Smith (34-16) is looking to pick up where he left off as he is coming off a submission win over Devin Clark in November. That win marked ended Smith’s tough 2020 as he lost his two other fights last year to Glover Teixeira and Aleksandar Rakic.
Crute (12-1) came into the UFC in 2018 after competing on Dana White’s Contender Series. Since joining the promotion, the Australian has posted a 4-1 record. He is riding a two-fight winning streak with back-to-back finishes over Michael Oleksiejczuk and Modestas Bukauskas.

Round 1
First pay per view with a live crowd since the coronavirus pandemic is underway and the fans are loud! Great to hear!
Crute gets things started with a front kick ti the tight and Smith returns fire with a jab. Moments later Crute goes with a kick again and Smith uses the same counter jab.
Smith having lots of success with the jab early and he’s got the attention of Crute.
The jab lands again. Crute has no answer. However, Crute is blasting Smith with leg kicks. While both are having success, Smith is marking up Crute’s face with the jabs.
Smith now lands a big right hand and Crute just eats it.
A few seconds later Crute crumbles to the ground. Not sure what happened. It was like his leg went out. But as Smith comes in to take advantage, Crute secures a takedown and is all over Smith.
Crazy round. Replay shows it was a kick that messed up Crute’s leg and Crute can’t stand at the end of the round.
After seeing Crute stumble around and limping, the doctor stops the fight.
