Anthony Smith submits Vitor Petrino with guillotine choke at UFC 301
The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, May 4, 2024 for UFC 301, going down live from the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Headlining the event is a flyweight title bout between Alexandre Pantoja (27-5) and no. 10 ranked Steve Erceg (12-1).
Co-headlining the event is the return of former multi-time WEC and UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo (31-8), who comes back to the octagon tonight following a 2-0-1 stint in professional boxing to face no. 12 ranked Jonathan Martinez (19-4).
Our feature fight of the evening came at 205 lbs between no. 10 ranked former title challenger Anthony Smith (38-19) and Vitor Petrino (11-1).
Smith came into the bout having gone 4-3 over his latest seven appearances, while Petrino had gone a perfect 4-0 inside the octagon to date.

Smith got his jab and leg kicks going early, Petrino of which returned with some good leg kicks of his own. He then boxed his way into Smith’s range in search of a takedown, Smith wrapping up a guillotine choke as Petrino took him down.
From here it was only a matter of time before Petrino was forced to tap.

Anthony Smith has certainly had ups and downs in his career, but he’s still one of the best light-heavyweights in the world. That was a very impressive finish over an undefeated talent that was a sizeable favorite against him coming in.
