Archie Colgan prepared to put on a show at Bellator Champions Series in Paris, continue path to title fight
Surging Bellator lightweight contender Archie Colgan is just getting started. Heading into Bellator Paris on May 17, against France’s own Thibault Gouti, Colgan enters enemy territory looking to extend his unbeaten record, and continue his path towards a Bellator title, a title he finds very meaningful to his career and all that he’s accomplished thus far.
Having learned and trained under the likes of Justin Gaethje and Kamaru Osman, Colgan approaches every fight with a maturity that would be hard to find someone just nine fights into their professional career. Approaching his seventh fight with the Bellator MMA promotion, Archie Colgan feels connected to the promotion that has helped raise him in his professional career and because of the uncertain future of Bellator, he wants the world title more than anything.
In an interview with MyMMANews.com, Colgan discussed why he wants the Bellator MMA title specifically rather than deciding to join the PFL global roster and chase the PFL title and $1 million grand prize.
“I had the conversation with my management when the acquisition (PFL buying Bellator) happened, figuring out what are the options, and I told them that my goal was to be Bellator champion. [I asked] ‘Is Bellator still going to be a thing’ He said “yeah it’s going to run separately for a little bit.” I said, “Okay, then I want to be a Bellator champion.” So I haven’t paid mind to being like I’m going to win this fight and then hopefully they’ll throw me into the [PFL] tournament. I want to go win the Bellator belt, that’s what my mind and my focus is on.”
Heading into France with a chance to win the crowd over and further cement himself as a lightweight title contender, Archie Colgan wanted an opportunity to go into enemy territory and make a statement, and he’s got just that. Prepared to show that he continues to put all of his skills together and will display them against Gouti, Colgan knows this fight could lead to the biggest opportunity of his young professional career, getting a Bellator title fight, and the chance to wrap gold around his waist for the very first time.
