Arnold Allen snaps two-fight skid, defeats Giga Chikadze at UFC 304

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, July 27, 2024, for UFC 304, going down live from the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England.

Headlining the event is a welterweight title bout between defending champion Leon Edwards (22-3) and no. 2 ranked Belal Muhammad (23-3), a rematch of their 2021 encounter that resulted in a no contest.

Co-headlining the event is also a championship rematch, this one coming in the heavyweight division between interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall (14-3) and no. 4 ranked Curtis Blaydes (18-4).

Opening up our main card tonight was a featherweight clash between no. 6 ranked Arnold Allen (20-3) and no. 10 ranked Giga Chikadze (15-4).

Following a 10-0 start to his promotional tenure Allen came into the bout off a two-fight skid, losing to the likes of no. 2 ranked former champion Max Holloway and no. 5 ranked Movsar Evloev in his latest two appearances.

Chikadze on the other hand, a 38-10 professional kickboxing champion, won his first seven-straight octagon bouts before suffering a defeat to no. 9 ranked Calvin Kattar in 2022. He had since rebounded with a win over Alex Caceres last August.

Official Result: Arnold Allen def. Giga Chikadze via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Chikadze opened up the bout throwing several right round kicks to the body, arms, and head of Allen, the Brit of which began to land some good punches as the opening round went on.

Round two was much of the same, Allen controlling the center while each of them landed great strikes onto the other, the most significant strike of the round being a head kick landed by the Georgian.

Allen continued to control the center into the third and final round as Chikadze was slowing, aiding him in being awarded the unanimous decision victory and snapping his two-fight losing skid in the process.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
