Ayaka Miura on Legendary Coaching Leading Into ONE: Heavy Hitters Title Bid
Ayaka Miura challenges for the ONE strawweight world title against Xiong Jing Nan on January 14th.
Several notable strawweight contenders will be performing at ONE: Heavy Hitters inside Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Miura has been trained by legendary mixed martial artist Ryo Chonan. With her vaunted scarfhold Americana and the guidance from the Pride/ UFC veteran, the Japanese judoka has jettisoned to a title shot.

In an interview with ONE Championship, transcription courtesy of onefc.com, Miura said, “As a coach, he gives us solid support through all the tough times. Because he actually knows the harshness (of the sport), he has to be strict with us. And because of that, it gives us discipline and willpower.”
Ayaka Miura
Xiong Jing Nan has carved out quite a legacy in the ONE Circle with little indication her momentum is slowing down. Jing Nan became the inaugural ONE strawweight champion and has been the only titleholder the division has known for the last four years.
Ayaka Miura addressed her upcoming opponent in a comprehensive manner.
Miura stated, “I first heard about it in September last year. I was surprised. The match was originally scheduled for October, so I asked my trainer if I could make it. Jing Nan also had a match in September, so I wondered if she would be all right. I was surprised at first.”
“Two fighters have lost to both of us (Laura Balin and Samara Santos)… I’ve been practicing, watching the strikes rather than striking with her. I’ve been training my eyes to look at the punches and to avoid them.”
“I’m sure there are a lot of people who think, “Can she win?” and, “It is impossible.” Despite that, I’m going to hang on somehow and do my best, so please give me your support on January 14th.”
