Bellator 167 loses main event for second time, Patricky Freire injured
Patricky Freire has sustained an undisclosed injury and has been forced to withdraw from the Bellator 167 headlining rematch with Derek Campos on December 3.
It is the second main event to be dropped from the Thackerville, Oklahoma show. Pat Curran vs. John Teixeira was the originally scheduled main event but was dropped after Curran sustained an injury. Freire’s rematch with Campos was then announced as the new main event.
Freire and Campos first fought in 2014 via second-round knockout in the 155-pound tournament semi-final. They were expected to rematch in April, but Campos was forced out of the Bellator 152 main event due to an injury.
Bellator 167 is the second of two Bellator MMA cards in Thackerville next weekend. On Friday night, bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas defends his title against Joe Warren in the main event.
According to the Bellator MMA promotion, Campos will be paid his show money and rebooked early in 2017.
