Bellator 2021 return targeted for April 9th

The Bellator 2021 return is trending towards a return to The Mohegan Sun Arena. The Uncasville, Connecticut location will be the venue for the promotion to run a show on April 9th.

The initial report of this return date came from MMA DNA with subsequent confirmation from MMA Fighting via a source close to the promotion’s planning process.

Late-February was initially mapped out for a return to action but those plans fell by the wayside and specific reasons were not disclosed as to why.

Nothing in the ways of matchup announcements indicated as of yet for this early-April card. But the promotion seems to have quite a few fun options to look forward to throughout the calendar year.

Bellator 2021 return

The debuts of new light heavyweight signees like Yoel Romero and Anthony Johnson obviously come to mind.

There’s also the possibility of Kyoji Horiguchi returning to the Bellator ranks to vie for the bantamweight belt he never lost inside the cage. The Rizin titlist versus Bellator 135 pound king Juan Archuleta is, on paper, one of the best possible fights that can be booked in 2021, in my opinion.

The featherweight Grand Prix also will continue to play out throughout the year. Dual division featherweight and lightweight champion Patricio Pitbull looks to maintain his run of dominance at 145 lbs.

Ryan Bader seems itching to defend his heavyweight crown. Also, possible defenses from great champions like Cyborg, Gegard Mousasi, Vadim Nemkov, and Douglas Lima loom on the horizon.

There are also some curious broadcast platforms that could carry Bellator MMA this year. Due to a Viacom restructuring, Bellator MMA reports Showtime sports which could open up broadcast options on CBS Sports Network and Showtime.

The previous Bellator MMA card took place in December for Bellator 254. Juliana Velasquez unseated Ilima-Lei Macfarlane from her throne and captured the Bellator flyweight title via unanimous decision.
