Bellator 255 Media Day quotes pt 1 (Huerta, May, and Nurmagomedov)
Bellator 255 Media Day took place earlier today ahead of the event which goes Friday, April 2nd.
The top of the marquee feature at Bellator 255 is a rematch between Patricio Pitbull and Emmanuel Sanchez. The stakes are high for that bout as the winner is not only the Bellator MMA world featherweight champion. But they also punch their ticket to the Bellator Featherweight Grand Prix finals opposite AJ McKee.
I took part in the virtual experience and below are several excerpts from various fighters I spoke with ahead of Bellator 255.
Bellator 255 Media Day
Roger Huerta
I’m kind of wondering because your opponent (Chris Gonzalez) coming up here has the direct reference of training with Clay Guida. Who obviously you had that legendary fight with years back. What are your thoughts on that kind of dynamic?
“Nothing, man. I saw Clay’s last fight. He did well. Still the same old Clay. Not a lot of improvements. But just pressures in, good cardio, tough as nails. But I’m here to display some skills, man. I’ve been all over the world. Seen a lot of things. I mean, it’s nothing. A fight’s a fight. Clay ain’t going to be in there, not his teammates, not no one. No one’s going to be in there. Just him and myself, that’s it. He’s in there with me. No one else.”
Jack May
With the backdrop of some of the prior questions, you have this rematch with Tyrell Fortune, a ranked heavyweight opponent.
But your last fight being with XMMA there I’m kind of curious, are you locked into some form of multi-fight deal with Bellator? Is this like a one-fight deal for the Fortune rematch?
“I mean, the pay is good. Better than the first one with Fortune. There’s a two-fight option.”
Usman Nurmagomedov
In terms of MMA skills, what is Usman looking forward to showcasing to a segment of the Bellator audience who’s maybe never seen him before?
“I would like to make a big statement in my debut fight. So I will get more fans from all over the world. Especially in the US and with Bellator fans. After that, God willing, I will get the victory.”
