Bellator’s Brennan Ward healthy and motivated, just looking for a worthy opponent to create chaos with
Having been on the shelf since August of 2023, Bellator MMA welterweight Brennan Ward is eager to return to the cage. In his last fight, Ward came into the fight with a bothersome injury and suffered more damage in his fight against Logan Storley at Bellator 298. A long-time veteran of Bellator MMA, Ward has not seen any action since the promotion merged with PFL to begin the year, and although there were multiple ideas thrown at him to begin the year, nothing came from those talks and he’s still looking for a fight.
In an interview with the ‘On The Mic‘ podcast and MyMMANews.com, Brennan Ward spoke about the waiting period he’s gone through looking for another fight, only having one fight left on his current contract, his loyalty to Bellator MMA, and what keeps him fighting.
When he’s not fighting in the cage, Ward takes on a construction job which provides him and his family the benefits that fighting doesn’t. Make no mistake that Brennan Ward’s first love is fighting, but his family and livelihood takes precedent. After having fights fall through for both the PFL-Bellator crossover event, as well as Bellator 302 in Belfast, Ward has made it clear, he just wants a fight.
Although he had to wait and watch the crossover event, Ward said he took a ton of pride in seeing the success of Bellator fighters against PFL fighters, as they went 5-1 in their matchups on the main card.
“I take a lot, a lot of pride being a Bellator guy. We never tried to be the UFC. Keep your shit. The UFC is the UFC. Nobody is going to be the UFC, we never tried to be the UFC. We had our own guys, our own swag, I loved it. When they [Bellator] dusted Rizin and then they dusted the PFL, we f**king rule. It sucks they couldn’t figure out the logistics behind it. It really breaks my heart that it [Bellator] is going to be dissolved. We are the second-best promotion, hands down.”
Following the crossover event, Brennan Ward called for a fight against PFL light heavyweight champion Impa Kasanganay, who has since been booked for the upcoming PFL season, but no matter who the opponent is, Ward is ready for action.
“I think at this point in my life and in my career, I only want to fight dudes that got big names or some dirty prospect. I will fight a dirty prospect or I’ll fight dudes like Impa, who have a big name. Impa popped into my mind because we would have a nasty fight, we would scrap, it would be a big fight. I want to fight dudes who are going to put on a show, this is the entertainment industry. That’s why I’m still kicking around after 12 f**king years at the high level, cause I put on a show. Give me some dudes who want to bang and put on a show, and we’re going to light it up.”
Fans who have followed Brennan Ward’s career know the excitement he brings inside the cage, and making it known he only has one fight remaining on his current contract, his message is simple: he needs someone to step up.
“They [Bellator & PFL] know. They know I’m down to fight whoever, whenever, I need somebody to step up. I need someone to say ‘F**k Ward. What’s up Ward, you want to go?’
Calling for a big name and challenge that will electrify the crowd and himself with the final fight on his deal, Ward isn’t sure what the future holds for him after his next fight.
“I honestly don’t know.”
Throughout his career and his life, Brennan Ward has been ruthless in his pursuit of greatness and even when he fought demons of addiction which he has now overcome. All he aims to do is put on a show for the fans, stay loyal to his promotion, and go down in history as one of the most exciting fighters to ever step inside the cage.
