Bia Mesquita, 10x world champion and ADCC gold medalist, wins MMA debut

Bia Mesquita, an Internatioanl Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) Hall of Famer, won her professional mixed martial arts debut on Saturday night.

The June 15 fight against Jorgina Ramos took place on the undercard of the Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen boxing match in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Mesquita defeated Ramos by way of first-round rear-naked choke submission. She is arguably the best competitive record in both Gi and Nogi of all time having won 24 titles at black belt level in the four major Gi Championships. With 10 gold medals, as of Worlds 2021, she holds the record for the most IBJJF World Championship titles at black belt level.

In 2017 she defeated UFC fighter and 2× World Jiu Jitsu Black Belt Champion Mackenzie Dern in 64 seconds at their first competitive meeting in the Rio Falls Jiu Jitsu open.
