Blagoy Ivanov edges Marcos Rogerio De Lima on scorecards at UFC 274
The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, May 7, 2022, for UFC 274, going down live from the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
Headlining the event is a UFC lightweight championship bout between champion Charles Oliveira and former interim champion Justin Gaethje. Unfortunately, Oliveira missed weight by .5 lbs and has been forced to vacate his championship.
Only Gaethje will be eligible to win the title tonight.
Co-headlining the event is a UFC strawweight championship rematch between current champion Rose Namajunas and former champion Carla Esparza. These two met in their UFC debuts, opposing one another, with Esparza the victor.
Now they find themselves in a rematch for that same belt here at UFC 274.
Opening up the prelims tonight was a heavyweight bout between former WSOF & PFL heavyweight champion Blagoy Ivanov and Marcos Rogerio De Lima. Continue reading to see how this bout went down:
Official Result: Blagoy Ivanov def. Marcos Rogerio De Lima
De Lima is looking incredible early on, throwing and landing a number of hard kicks and punches.
It’s insane the chin Ivanov has. He took Tai Tuivasa’s best shots, he took Derrick Lewis’ best shots, and now he’s taking some heavy punches from a very in-tune De Lima.
The Brazilian keeps this furious pace going into the second, landing nasty combinations to the head of Ivanov, but he begins to tire midway through the round. Ivanov starts to put his punches together soon after he sees De Lima slowing down, and also ties him up along the fence in order to further tire him out.
It appears it’s 19-19 going into the third and final round.
The third was much closer, with the two taking turns pressing one another up against the fence.
De Lima is able to secure a double leg takedown in the final seconds of the third however, most likely giving him the 29-28 decision, and third-straight victory.
But, the scorecards went the other way. All in all, it was a close fight. This is why you don’t leave it in the hands of the judges. That however is much easier said than done. Ivanov snaps his two-fight skid with this victory.
