Blair Wilt’s untimely issue as an amateur

In 2021, Blair Wilt began his journey on the wild ride of mixed martial arts competition.

In Wilt’s first bout, he competed under the Philadelphia based Art of War.  Successfully, picking up a dominant stoppage over Christian Monyer in the second round, Wilt’s debut was an absolute success.  With his spirit on fire, and momentum in his favor, Wilt got back into the gym to sharpen his tools for his next outing.

In January of this year (2022), Wilt moved forward with his next outing under the CFFC banner taking on Cameron Scalio.  Wilt ultimately suffered his first loss via Unanimous Decision.  However, following the bout is where the confusion sets in. Although the bout was signed and sanctioned as an amateur bout, Wilt was sidelined briefly while trying to figure out why his lone loss was being registered as a professional bout.

With only two bouts in total under his belt, Wilt certainly didn’t plan to make the jump to the professional ranks.  “I would’ve been down for whatever,” Wilt says about the mix-up, in a typical “fighters fight,” mentality.  However, his team knew they needed to sort this issue out before continuing forward to Wilt’s next bout.

“I’d absolutely be willing to. But obviously that would mean that I would have to pick my fights smarter, right? Because I’m not trying to go up against a guy who has 15 fights and I have 2,3,4 fights. That’s just me having to know what I’m getting myself into. It’s a great experience. But like I said, I’d have to focus in more for what I/m signing up for”

Since the conversation with Wilt, the issue has been resolved and Wilt’s amateur status has been reinstated.

Tune in above as Blair Wilt discusses a very confusing time in his early amateur mixed martial arts career.  He discusses the slight chance of having to remain professional if he wasn’t given another choice.  Wilt also discusses when he plans to compete again, how he hopes the confusion is settled and much more!
