Bo Nickal remains undefeated, TKO’s Val Woodburn in 38 seconds at UFC 290
The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, July 8, 2023, for International Fight Week, where UFC 290 goes down live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Headlining the event is a featherweight title unification bout between undisputed champion Alexander Volkanovski (25-2) and interim champion Yair Rodriguez (15-3).
Co-headlining the event was also a title bout, this one a trilogy coming at 125 lbs between UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno (21-6-2) and no. 2 ranked former RFA flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja (25-5).
Opening up the main card tonight was a middleweight showcase between a pair of undefeated prospects in Bo Nickal (5-0) and Valentine Woodburn (7-1). Nickal, one of the greatest NCAA Division I wrestlers in history, was originally slated to face Tresean Gore at this event.
However, roughly one week ago Gore was forced out of the bout with a wrist injury and replaced by Woodburn.

Official Result: Bo Nickal def. Val Woodburn via TKO (punches) at :38 of round one
Nickal shoots on an early takedown but is unsuccessful in the attempt. He begins to really step in and throw some heavy shots, first connecting with a nasty right hook. Woodburn was seriously hurt from here, and it only took a few more accurate follow up shots to drop him and secure the finish.
