Bo Nickal, UFC 300

Bo Nickal scheduled to face Paul Craig at UFC 309

Bo Nickal added to UFC 309 fight card in New York

UFC 309 is shaping up to be a very exciting night of fights with the Ultimate Fighting Championship having just added a compelling middleweight affair to the lineup.

The event is to go down on November 16, 2024, live from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

In addition to a heavily rumored heavyweight title clash between current champion Jon Jones and former two-time champion Stipe Miocic, the UFC brass just booked a middleweight encounter between freestyle wrestling stud Bo Nickal (6-0) and BJJ ace Paul Craig (17-8-1).

Nickal has gone a perfect 3-0 thus far into his octagon tenure, defeating the likes of Jamie Pickett (arm-triangle choke), Val Woodburn (KO), and Cody Brundage (rear naked choke), while Craig is the only man to ever defeat no. 2 ranked light-heavyweight contender Magomed Ankalaev (triangle choke). Craig was also the only man to defeat no. 3 ranked former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill (triangle armbar) until Alex Pereira became the second to do so earlier this year at UFC 300.

Craig’s other notable octagon victories come over the likes of Henrique da Silva (armbar), Kennedy Nzechukwu (triangle choke), Vinicius Moreira (rear naked choke), Gadzhimurad Antigulov (triangle choke), Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua (TKO), no. 7 ranked light-heavyweight contender Nikita Krylov (triangle choke), and Andre Muniz (TKO).

Craig also went 3-0 as an amateur before turning professional, picking up three submission victories, an armbar, a triangle choke, and a guillotine choke, while Nickal went 2-0 as an amateur, picking up one each a guillotine choke submission and a KO, all five combined amateur wins coming in the opening round.

What’s more, of their combined 37 fights, amateur and professional, 35 ended in a finish with just two going the distance.

We don’t see many talents with better grappling than Paul Craig, and we don’t see any with better wrestling than Bo Nickal. What a treat we have in this one coming to us this fall. Who wins this middleweight match up going down at UFC 309?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
