Brandon Royval talks UFC Vegas 46 win, being possible UFC 270 backup, future plans
Brandon Royval plans on making this year a memorable one for him in his young career.
So far in early 2022, he’s off to a great start as on Saturday, Royval picked up a split decision victory over Rogerio Bontorin in a battle of two top ranked flyweight contenders.
Royval, who is currently ranked No.4 in the official UFC flyweight rankings, made only be a few days removed from his win, but he’s not celebrating just yet.
This Saturday, flyweight champion Brandon Monero will be making his first title defense against rival Deiveson Figueiredo as the two will complete their trilogy. If something is to happen where Monero or Figueiredo cannot fight, Royval is planning on accepting a fight on short notice.
While a title fight would be ultimate goal for any fighter, Royval isn’t throwing all his eggs into one basket as he’s aware there’s a lot that would have to happen in order to get that title shot. However, he is laser focused on doing a lot of good things this.
Royval has been fighting nothing but the best since joining the UFC and he spent a good chunk of last year fighting through injures. Now, Royval plans on making things right and rattle off a few wins this year to make himself a real threat to anyone in the 125 pound division.
Following his win at UFC Vegas 46, Royval spoke with MyMMANews to discuss his win, the UFC 270 co-main event between Monero and Figueiredo and his plans for 2022. You can watch his full interview in the video above.
