Bryan Barberena calls for short notice fight against Shavkat Rakhmonov, ‘Nomad’ responds

Bryan Barberena is hoping to fight Shavkat Rakhmonov on short notice.

Rakhmonov was supposed to fight Geoff Neal at UFC Vegas 67 on January 14 at the UFC Apex in an intriguing welterweight scrap. Yet, just over two weeks before the fight, it was revealed that Neal suffered an injury and was forced out of the fight, but the hope was ‘Nomad’ was going to remain on the card.

Since then, Neal has said he wanted the fight to be rebooked, but Barberena took to social media to say he is open to taking on Rakhmonov on social media.

“Neal out. We were supposed to fight before on short notice. No one wants to fight you. Fuck it make it at 180 and I’ll see you there!,” Barberena tweeted.

Shortly after Barberena’s tweet, Rakhmonov took to social media to respond to Barberena’s request and was interested in making it happen.

“Why not, let’s do it for the fans,” Rakhmonov tweeted.

Whether or not the UFC will actually make this fight is to be seen, but both Rakhmonov and Barberena are hoping it comes to fruition.

“Mad respect. let’s Fucken go! @ufc @seanshelby @danawhite let’s make this official send the contract and let’s get it done,” Barberena added.

Bryan Barberena (18-9) is coming off a submission loss to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Orlando in December. Prior to that, he was on a three-fight win streak with a TKO win over Robbie Lawler and decision wins over Matt Brown and Darian Weeks. ‘Bam Bam’ has been in the UFC since 2014 and holds notable wins over Jake Ellenberger, Sage Northcutt, and Warlley Alves.

Shavkat Rakhmonov (16-0) picked up a submission win over Neil Magny last time out for the biggest win of his career. He’s currently 4-0 in the UFC and ranked 10th at welterweight with his other three wins also coming by stoppage against Carlston Harris, Michel Prazeres, and Alex Oliveira.
